THE BOYZ’s New Company Gets Called Out For Media Play
IST Entertainment previously announced that they had granted THE BOYZ full rights to use their group name’s trademark free of charge. This statement followed allegations from One Hundred about a trademark dispute involving the group’s soon-to-be former agency. Shortly after, 10Asia reported that they had acquired a copy of IST Entertainment’s original requests to One Hundred. According to 10Asia, these requests would allow IST Entertainment to continue benefiting from profits even after THE BOYZ left the company. Allegedly, IST Entertainment offered free usage of all 56 trademarks associated with the group, provided the members signed a contract with three specific conditions. The conditions included a limitation to profits made from past content, the permission to sell leftover inventory, and a ban on remakes and remasters.
Following the news, netizens have turned against One Hundred, defending IST Entertainment. They claim that the requests are far from absurd or over-the-top and are actually standard procedure.
- Well, for the merch, as long as it’s not like the boys worked on it personally, I think it’s pretty standard procedure. Of course the company can sell it.
- One Hundred needs to let go of things that need to be let go off. They weren’t the ones who raised the boys.
- The new company sucks.
- Do they want IST to swallow the losses for the inventory? What’s wrong with selling it?
- Sigh, what’s up with their new company?
- The new company is so weird…
- I’m not surprised anymore because 10Asia’s Kim Ji Won was a name I saw so much when HYBE was bullying NewJeans. LOL. Unsurprising.
- Huh? There’s nothing wrong with their requests. The thing about the remasters is also standard procedure. Of course they need to pay to use it.
This comes after IST Entertainment denied One Hundred’s claims about the company making it hard for THE BOYZ to obtain rights to their name. You can read more about it below.
