Australian TV Network Apologizes For Insulting Comments About BTS
An Australian television station that came under fire for insulting BTS has issued an apology.
On June 19, BTS were featured on the Australian show 20 to One, taking the number 18 spot on their top 20 list of pop culture. Throughout the segment, hosts Erin Molan and Nick Cody made critical remarks about the group that many fans deemed “xenophobic” and “racist”.
Only one band member actually speaks English.
In response, ARMY trended the hashtag #channel9apologize, demanding an apology on BTS’s behalf.
We demand sincere apology for your report full of racist, misogyny, malice on BTS and their fans. Also for the insensitive reference of missile threat #Channel9Apologize

We hope that any local media companies wishing to speak about not just this issue, but anything to do with BTS in the future will reach out to fanbases so we are able to properly educate and prevent this from happening again in the future.#channel9apologize

A Channel 9 spokesperson issued an official apology in a statement to CNN, stating that their BTS segment did not “breach any broadcast regulations”, but they are apologetic toward anyone whom it offended.
As a light-hearted entertainment program, it is our belief that last night’s episode of ’20 to One’ … did not breach any broadcast regulations, and was intended to humorously highlight the popularity of the group. We apologize to any who may have been offended by last night’s episode.
