Chris Martin Explains Why BTS Belongs With Coldplay On “My Universe”
Today, after weeks of speculation, Coldplay and BTS announced their collaboration track, “My Universe.” The song is part of Coldplay’s upcoming album, Music of the Spheres.
Today, Chris Martin guested on The Kelly Clarkson Show for its Season 3 premiere. During his interview, host Kelly Clarkson asked about the Coldplay x BTS collaboration.
It’s called ‘My Universe,’ and you did it with BTS, right? I love that. I love that you’re working with BTS.
— Kelly Clarkson
Chris Martin began by revealing what “My Universe” is all about: crossing boundaries for love.
We really don’t believe in any boundaries or separation of anything really, and so the song ‘My Universe’ is about someone being told they can’t love a certain other person, or can’t be with this race, or they can’t be gay – whatever it might be.
— Chris Martin
If anyone knows about breaking barriers, it’s BTS. They have defied critics’ expectations and taken over the global mainstream in a way that no other K-Pop group has done before.
According to Chris Martin, BTS was the perfect artist to collaborate with on “My Universe.”
And we thought, it would be good to sing this with BTS because maybe we’re not supposed to be together. And it turned out to be one of the most fun things ever. I went to Korea to be with them, it’s been amazing.
