BTS Might Be Able To Defer Their Military Enlistment According To The Military Manpower Administration
The Military Manpower Administration has expressed their approval of a bill that will allow pop-cultural artists such as BTS to defer their military enlistment.
We are currently pushing forward in revising the military service law so that outstanding pop-cultural artists can qualify for deferring their military enlistment.

Just last month, Jeon Yong Ki of the Democratic Party of Korea proposed a revision that would allow outstanding pop-cultural artists to defer their military enlistment until the age of 30.
Regarding the proposal, Seo Wook, the Minister of National Defense expressed, “Reviewing the possibility of deferment could be meaningful“, suggesting that that is the general opinion of the government department as a whole.
However, the revised bill would require the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to select the outstanding pop-cultural artists who qualify for the deferment, raising the concern of fairness.
The Military Manpower Administration must provide a clear set of qualifications. Since the issue of fairness is very important, we will set a high standard for the recommendation qualifications.
