BTS & The 2022 GRAMMYs? Here’s Why Fans Have Mixed Feelings
BTS has just been announced as part of the lineup for the 64th GRAMMY Awards, and fans’ reactions are mixed, to say the least.
Today, the Recording Academy announced that BTS, Brothers Osborne, Brandi Carlile, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X with Jack Harlow, and Olivia Rodrigo will all be gracing the stage this year. As for the awards, BTS is nominated for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for their smash-hit “Butter.”
In 2019, BTS attended the GRAMMYs as presenters. The following year they performed “Old Town Road” with Lil Nas X. In 2021, BTS received their first GRAMMY nomination and performed “Dynamite” virtually from a rooftop in Seoul.
Now, after three years, BTS is finally performing their own music in person at the 2022 GRAMMYs. As expected, fans are excited to see BTS turn the GRAMMYs into their own personal concert, but beyond that? It’s complicated.
bts is going to turn the gr4mmys into their own little concert and then armys will proceed to watch them in that same arena while they perform in a sold out stadium like it's just another friday for them, i smile

For years, journalists, music critics, and fans have accused the GRAMMYs of snubbing BTS. Despite being one of the most accomplished pop music acts in history, BTS has struggled to receive a single nomination, let alone win an award.
What kind of excuse will grammys have this time?! 😭 it’s gonna be embarrassing if they snub bts, like the whole world is looking at them

are they gonna use the performance to hype the grammys like they did last year and snub BTS again? probably. https://t.co/6yE72pIlgC

and i have ZERO expectations from grammy this year. i know bts deserve that award 200% but they won't give it to them

BTS has also faced “pushback” from the GRAMMYs’ official media. Last March, Rachel Brodsky, a former managing editor for the GRAMMYs‘ official website, spoke up about the Recording Academy‘s alleged bias against BTS.
Given BTS’s history with the GRAMMYs, it’s not surprising that some fans are feeling cautiously optimistic about the upcoming show.
Just remember what happened last time, it's grammys who need bts, i hope they don't do this thing this time pic.twitter.com/ACdIITEdIW

Again i’m feeling that weird combination of happy and proud of our boys but then absolutely filled with rage and resentment at that organisation pic.twitter.com/VZOFfaoEee
