BTS Was Invited To Perform At The Olympics, Here’s Why They Didn’t Do It
The main director for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Ceremonies revealed he invited BTS to perform at the event, but they were forced to decline.
Because of the time constraints of the closing ceremony, they were unable to have more K-Pop artists perform, but that didn’t stop them from trying to invite the best artists K-Pop has to offer.
“The closing ceremony has a run time of 2 hours and in that time, there are official events that have to be done such as the final medal ceremony and the handover ceremony to the next host. We wanted to invite a few more artists but due to scheduling and other issues, they couldn’t attend. This included BTS and PSY.” — Song Seung Hwan
Song Seung Hwan revealed he sent BTS an offer to attend a year in advance, but that still wasn’t enough.
“We sent BTS an offer to attend the ceremony in early 2017, but they had so many overseas schedules. It was very difficult to match schedules as it seemed like they would be abroad during the Olympic Games.” — Song Seung Hwan
Song Seung Hwan had also asked PSY, but he had declined because of the backlash he received before.
