BTS’s J-Hope Had A Meltdown While Working On His Solo Album “Jack In The Box”—Here’s What Caused It

It was one of his biggest slumps.

BTS‘s J-Hope poured his blood, sweat, and tears into his solo project Jack In The Box. However, despite all his efforts, the first steps were rough. The rapper talked about one of the hardest periods of the album making in a recent interview with W Korea.

When asked about the year he was working on the music, he described being in such a big slump that he “had a meltdown.” The cause of his distress was the rejection he faced at the hands of the album’s producers. He asked them to listen to a few of his songs, but unfortunately, they weren’t thrilled with what they heard.

Um… I had a meltdown around that time. I played a few works for my solo album to the producers I know. And their reaction was not what I expected.

But this was J-Hope, the very definition of optimistic! He refused to let the rejection bruise his pride and make him lose the drive to release a fantastic album. With a new mindset, he went back to work…and the rest is history.

But you know what’s funny though? I got more creative doing a fresh start. I erased them all, and it just cleared my mind. I do not avoid challenges and slumps. I am the kind of person who encounters and overcomes it. Like, ‘Let’s just do it’. <Jack In The Box> actually walks through the journey.

When asked what he would do if the album isn’t well-received, he stated that he would ask himself several questions about his attitude. He would want to understand what he was lacking in so as to improve upon it the second time around. It just goes to show that he isn’t afraid to face failure, and he continuously wants to be better than he was yesterday!

Oh, that’s my burden to take. I would ask myself, was I too arrogant? Did I just do what I like? And learn my lesson.

J-Hope’s positive attitude towards challenges and setbacks—not to mention the way he professionally accepts feedback—must be a reason why he’s so successful today. Jack In The Box is surely another addition to his long list of achievements.
