BTS Jin’s “The Astronaut” MV Director Shares Phenomenal Storyboard
LUMPENS has revealed the storyboard for BTS Jin‘s “The Astronaut.”
On October 28, Jin released his anticipated solo single “The Astronaut,” co-written by Coldplay. That included a cinematic music video directed by LUMPENS.
LUMPENS a video creation company led by visual artist YongSeok Choi (usually referred to as LUMPENS) that creates music videos, visual art, commercials, experimental films, and more. According to the official website, LUMPENS has been a driving force behind most of BTS’s music videos, from “No More Dream” (2013) until now.

When we see him traveling with a BTS member, we usually suspect that means that a comeback of some kind is coming. That’s certainly what it meant when we saw him traveling to Los Angeles at the same time as Jin…

Because sure enough, “The Astronaut” was released, and LUMPENS directed its MV in L.A. As always, the music video turned out amazing and was filled with lots of details that the ARMY could appreciate.
Recently, BIGHIT MUSIC released both behind-the-scenes photos and video from the set of “The Astronaut.”
Now, LUMPENS has revealed the storyboard from the production of “The Astronaut.” Storyboards are created in the pre-production of a video, whether live-action or animation, to pre-visualize the moving sequence. So, directors use this to help design creative shots, plan shooting schedules, etc.
A storyboard is a graphic organizer that consists of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence.

While many storyboards appear to be sketched-out doodles, LUMPENS released a detailed animated storyboard that included nearly every thought-out detail, even set design and styling.
Additionally, he released every shot from beginning to end alongside the played-out music video, played simultaneously.
This shows not only how thoroughly it was planned out but how true to it they stayed in the end.
It’s amazing to see the similarities and differences (while so few).
LUMPENS and BIGHIT MUSIC have released and shared the full creative process with us. It’s very cool to see it from that behind-the-scenes’ point-of-view.
Both the storyboard and the finished MV are works of art individually.
Previously, LUMPENS shared that his kid did the drawings featured in “The Astronaut” MV.
