Jin Names The Song That Almost Ended BTS—Right Before Their Career Took Off
BTS‘s long journey to the top almost ended prematurely because of a comeback that fell short of expectations.
In the group’s documentary BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star, RM revealed they were riding high from the success of “Boy In Luv” and wanted to “claim victory” with their next comeback. There was so much pressure that he felt the company “would be negatively affected if this didn’t go well.”
Those fears came true. BTS didn’t win first place with “Danger”. Making the boys even more upset, the song “left the charts in a day.”
It was a lose-lose situation for the group and the company. Jin said, “As we plummeted with ‘Danger’ after ‘Boy In Luv’, the company happened to be suffering from financial difficulties as well.”
The unfortunate series of events almost marked the end of BTS’s journey. Jin shared their feelings at the time, “It felt like it was the end for us.”
They couldn’t help comparing themselves to other groups and how long it took them to win first place. In addition to experiencing “burnout” and feeling “impatient” to succeed, the members felt frustrated and got into “a lot of arguments.” Little did they know, their time to shine would happen quicker than they thought.
Everything changed entirely with their next comeback. They put those experiences and feelings into The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1 and achieved the first win they’d been working towards. If they had given up because of “Danger”, they would’ve missed the chance to strike gold with “I NEED U” and become the living legends they are now.
