BTS’s Jungkook Voices Concerns About The Future Of AI

He’s concerned.

AI (Artificial Intelligence) has become a hot topic in recent years. Some are for it due to its efficiency and “creativity,” while others are against it for many reasons. Some are concerned about how it’ll affect the job market, as it “steals” jobs from others and takes advantage of real artists’ work.

Still, social media accounts solely dedicated to creating and posting AI-generated song covers in the voice of the BTS members have increased rampantly. Most ARMYs are not on board with this. Some who support these covers argue that they have become relatively common, and fans of other artists do it, too. On the other hand, those opposing these covers feel that not only does it infringe upon the artists’ intellectual property, but by feeding their voices into an AI program, fans are inevitably contributing towards future situations where these tools can be used for malicious purposes.

Most BTS members have not directly addressed the issue. However, ARMYs took RM’s lyrics in “All Day ft. Tablo” as a hint of where he and BTS might stand morally on this issue.

Today, BTS’s Jungkook briefly spoke about AI covers as he surprised ARMYs with an unexpected live broadcast via Weverse for the first time since his mandatory military enlistment.

Jungkook spent some of his free time with ARMYs because he missed them. He gave them life updates before singing some karaoke.

Jungkook sang some of his own hit songs, as well as others’, such as BLACKPINK Rosé and Bruno Mars’ “APT.”

Jungkook also briefly covered labelmate ILLIT’s hit song, “Magnetic,” and Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon’s “To. X.”

One reason he covered the songs above is that he had noticed AI covers of the songs, as though he had sung them. So, he wanted ARMYs to hear the real thing.

Jungkook recognized that the original artist’s voice sounded best, but he believed his real voice sounded better than the AI’s. Still, he expressed concern about how AI will make it harder for people to get jobs.

‘Magnetic?’ I know people liked the AI cover… Should I try it? Will I be able to beat the AI version? Bring it on! Honestly, I don’t think it’ll be long before it becomes impossible to tell apart AI recordings anymore. We’re in trouble. It’s all going down. This is how we’ll all lose work. How does the song go again? [Starts singing] Should I look up some of my AI covers? Should we play ‘Beat The AI?’

ARMYs naturally agreed with Jungkook’s concerns. They believe it’s “dangerous” to feed the BTS members’ voices into AI systems.

Previously, Jungkook shared that he found “no sincerity” in AI. Read more below.
