BTS Reveals That They Cried While Making “LOVE YOURSELF: Tear”
2018 was a pivotal year in BTS history. In fact, it could have been the end of it. That year, BTS went from nearly disbanding to achieving more than they had ever dared to dream.
In May 2018, BTS released LOVE YOURSELF: Tear, a record-breaking album that took home “Album of the Year” awards from the Gaon Chart Music Awards, Melon Music Awards, Mnet Asian Music Awards, and Seoul Music Awards.
In a Q&A with Pitchfork, BTS touched on the concept behind LOVE YOURSELF: Tear, and more. This album is about the end of love, and the emotional turmoil that comes with it. It reflected BTS’s personal hardships and the hardships of listeners everywhere.
The creative process for LOVE YOURSELF: Tear was also an emotional one. The members revealed that they cried while making it.
Jungkook recalled one particular moment when the album made him tear up while he was getting his makeup done.
LOVE YOURSELF: Tear was almost the album that never was, but thankfully, fate had other plans. Instead of mourning the loss of one of BTS’s great hits, fans can cry happy tears knowing that it overcame the odds, just like BTS did.
