BTS’s RM Discusses The Power Of Music And The Group’s Shift Towards English-Language Songs
In a recent interview with TIME, the members of BTS spoke about their breakout into international markets as well as their recent English-language releases.
“RM, the de facto leader, is direct in his rebuttal to criticisms from those who have questioned their linguistic evolution,” writes staff writer Raisa Bruner.
RM explained in the interview that language doesn’t matter to the group as much as it did in the past, and that they believe there is no boundaries surrounding music.
Language doesn’t matter to us that much like the past, I guess. We want to transcend everything, even ourselves too. So I guess that’s the power of music. In general, language, topic, there’s no borders, boundaries, or limits.

Bruner writes that despite the debate surrounding their “turn to English,” the group has seen overwhelming success following their recent releases. Furthermore, as BTS are in their 7th year since debut, change is inevitable.
