BTS’s RM Gives Suggestions For The Future Name Of The Group—And One Is “Bangtan Grandpas”
BTS recently sat down for an interview with Jaeki Cho for Amazon Music where they discussed everything from their views on masculinity to the last time they cried.
They also touched on their long-term plans. BTS has already broken the 7-year curse in K-Pop, and now they want to continue their career as a group for decades to come.
Leader RM stated that it’s a possibility that stems from their group name. In Korean, Bangtan Sonyeondan refers to how they’re a group of boys who “resist bullets” while their English name, Beyond the Scene, similarly signifies timelessness and resilience.
Our group name BTS itself does connote the possibility of change at anytime.
— RM
Though this logic was sound, V joked that their name also holds a very specific problem—the word sonyeon means “boys,” and they won’t stay young forever.
But doesn’t “sonyeon” imply that we need to maintain a youthful image?
— V
RM wasn’t opposed to eventually changing their name down the line. He gave two hilarious suggestions: Bangtan Papas—and when they’re a bit older—Bangtan Grandpas!
We told ourselves…BTS stands for the Bangtan Boys and we have our plans that we’ll be like Bangtan Papas or Bangtan Grandpas or something. Yeah, maybe in 20, 30 years. That’s what we want.
— RM
He stated that the important thing is “We’ll eventually need to embrace the change” because “We want to do this for a long time.”
Previously, fans used online technology to see how BTS would look like in the far future. Now we know that they’ll both age like fine wine and continue performing their hearts out!
