BTS’s Suga “Excluded” At The “2024 Melon Music Awards”
On November 30, K-Pop idols were honored for their achievements at the 2024 Melon Music Awards (MMAs). During the ceremony, however, fans noticed that one history-maker was missing.
Although BTS was not present at MMA this year (the majority of the members are still in the military), BTS’s achievements were still honored at the awards show. As a soloist, Jungkook took home the awards for “Top 10 Artists,” “Best Solo (Male),” and “Millions Top 10 Artist.”

MMA also played a VCR tribute to honor BTS’s legacy. Fans pointed out, however, that Suga was all but absent from the video. In the 50-second clip, Suga’s face is only shown once, in this closely cropped clip of RM giving an acceptance speech at 2016 MMA.
Suga does not appear in any wide shots of the group…
…and he never speaks. MMA included at least one clip of every other member speaking while accepting an award. Some members–like Jin–were included more than once, along with a couple of MMA presenters, such as actor Park Seo Joon.
“What did Yoongi ever do to deserve this disrespect?” one X user asked in a tweet that has been liked over 15,000 times. Outraged ARMYs are calling out MMA for excluding Suga and tweeting trending phrases such as “BTS IS SEVEN” to show support. Some fans believe MMA excluded Suga because of the star’s DUI case that made headlines earlier this year.

both mma and mama made “tribute clips”for bts and very conveniently left out close up shots of yoongi from them and used plenty of ot6 clips. this is extremely intentional cause in the past when showing bts this was never the case
