BTS’s Suga Just Made Billboard History As A Solo Artist, Here Is What Makes That Extra Special
BTS‘s Suga has made history as the first Korean artist to debut at number 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart with “Girl Of My Dreams,” the song he collaborated on with Juice WRLD.
Only one other Korean artist has ever topped the chart, that being PSY with his iconic hit “Gangnam Style.” However, not even “Gangam Style” debuted at number 1, only topping the chart later on.
This week's top-selling songs:
1. @JuiceWorlddd & #SUGA: Girl Of My Dreams
2. @whoisgayle: abcdefu
3. @eltonofficial & @DUALIPA: Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)
4. @walkerhayes: Fancy Like
5. @edsheeran: Shivers— billboard charts (@billboardcharts) December 20, 2021
But this achievement is not important only as a new record for Korean artists; it is a meaningful achievement for Suga on a personal level, considering how much Juice WRLD meant to him personally. “Girl Of My Dreams” is one of the tracks in Juice WRLD’s posthumous album, Fighting Demons, which was released earlier this month.
Previously, the two artists collaborated on other projects such as “All Night,” the soundtrack to the BTS World mobile game. After working together on their music, debuting at number 1 with “Girl Of My Dreams” holds more weight. Congratulations to Suga on setting a new record for Korean artists, and congratulations to both him and Juice WRLD on this well-earned win!
