BTS’s Suga Speaks Out About Depression And Mental Health
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, BTS‘s Suga discussed his lyrics addressing depression and other mental health struggles, explaining why it’s important for him to speak about these issues in his music.
He revealed that like anyone, his mental health isn’t perfect. Having dealt with depression, he admits it comes back from time to time.
I’m comfortable now and feeling good, but those sorts of negative emotions come and go. So it’s almost like cold weather. It may come back in a cycle over a year, year and a half.
— Suga
Something that helps to encourage him is fans’ positive feedback about lyrics pertaining to his personal mental health struggles.
But when I hear people say that when they listen to my music, and feel comfort and are consoled by those lyrics that express these emotions, that makes me feel very good. It’s very encouraging.
— Suga
Suga stressed the importance of normalizing the topic of mental health in society. He believes “these emotions are not something that need to be hidden. They need to be discussed and expressed.”
He always puts his genuine emotions into his music, whether they are good or bad, allowing fans to connect with the issues they may be experiencing themselves.
Whatever emotions that I may be feeling, I’m always ready to express them now, as I was before.
