News Of BTS’s 2020 GRAMMY Performance Receives Mixed Reactions
Come January 25, however, and most fan’s excitement has turned into anger when behind the scene footage showed BTS looking like backup dancers.
BTS. Are. Not. Backup. Dancers.
Or backup singers. They deserve a solo stage. Not this… pic.twitter.com/fAlOfa4UiZ#BTSdeservesbetter

They were situated in a moving stage behind Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, mostly hiding them from the spotlight.
this is singlehandedly the most embarrassing and disrespectful thing the westerns have done to bts pic.twitter.com/NBiVRUYYsg

The rehearsals dashed hopes that BTS would have a surprise solo stage.
I thought BTS will gonna have a solo performance cause you already put them on the Grammy Performers List.
BUT WHAT IS THIS? 🤦♂️
B*tch, they ain't back-ups. 🤨#BTSDeservesBetter pic.twitter.com/nGmopiklLd— Denzel 🌱 (@Denzel_Suazo) January 25, 2020
It also prompted ARMYs to trend #BTSdeservesbetter to express their disappointment at the award show.
I’m not even sorry to say this but BTS are on a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL THEN THIS FUCKING INDUSTRY. Man I tried my best to be supportive of them performing bc it was their dream BUT THE WAY THEY WERE PLAYED DIRTY 😤 #BTSdeservesbetter

They stated that BTS is talented enough to carry their own top-notch performance, and so giving them backup roles is disgraceful.
bts are NOT your free ticket to millions of viewers.
bts are NOT your backup dancers.
bts are NOT some group whose fame will die down in a year or two.
bts ARE talented performers with amazing capabilities, allow them to be that. #BTSdeservesbetter pic.twitter.com/RmOrkjNCv9— louise (@vantae_mono) January 25, 2020
Other fans, however, are trying staying positive despite the controversy.
Torn on how I feel about @BTS_twt on the #GRAMMYs. I know OTR was the biggest song of 2019 but feel like BTS should be doing their own thing. That said, the Grammys never have a large number of performances from any format so feel like it’s also an honor they are performing. 🤷♂️

Do they deserve to be backup singers at the Grammys? No. Am I gonna support regardless? Yes bc no matter what we're still here for bts.

Lil Nas X previously collaborated with RM to make “Seoul Town Road”, the fourth official remix of his hit song “Old Town Road”. The original version will be performed in the GRAMMYs on January 26, Sunday.
