BBC’s “Burning Sun” Documentary: Goo Hara’s Home Burglary Days After Her Passing Is Gaining Attention Again
BBC‘s new damning documentary on the infamous “Burning Sun” scandal has brought forth renewed attention on the late Goo Hara — who aided reports with the investigation of the K-Pop idols involved — as well as the burglary that took place at her home. The theft took place merely 50 days after her passing and has since remained unresolved.
The burglary occurred on January 14, 2020, at Goo Hara’s residence in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, just 50 days after her passing in November 2019.
CCTV footage captured an unidentified man wearing glasses, a mask, and gloves entering the property. He appeared to be familiar with the house and attempted to enter through the front door using a password. When that failed, he scaled the wall and entered through a second-floor balcony.
The intruder specifically targeted Goo Hara’s personal safe, located in her dressing room, while leaving other valuables untouched. Interestingly, Hara’s safe reportedly contained important items such as jewelry, investment documents, and old mobile phones. The burglar’s knowledge of the house layout and the exact location of the safe suggested an inside job.
Following the theft, Goo Hara’s brother, Goo Ho In, reported the incident to the police. Despite a thorough investigation lasting over nine months, authorities were unable to identify the perpetrator.
Friends and acquaintances of Goo Hara speculated that the burglar might have been someone close to her or someone acting on behalf of an acquaintance, given their detailed knowledge of the property and the timing of the burglary, which occurred just after a memorial service for Goo Hara.
The BBC documentary revealed that Goo Hara had played a key role in exposing the connections between celebrities like former BIGBANG member Seungri and Jung Joon Young and the police during the “Burning Sun” scandal. Her critical assistance has led to the burglary case becoming a focus among netizens once again.
Meanwhile, said case remains open, and the police are still seeking any information that might lead to the burglar’s identification.
