In particular, the unexpetced explicit sex scene in the very first episode created quite the buzz around the show. Cha Joo Young, who had already become a hot topic for her topless scene, was once again seen in a similarly bold scenario.

This new topless scene generated even more curiosity. Since during The Glory, it was revealed that Cha Joo Young’s nude scene was created with CGI, viewers have been wondering if the nude scene in The Queen Who Crowns was also CG. Shortly after, @style confirmed that Cha’s topless scene was indeed created with CG editing.

But the reason for the editing has caused some controversy. On January 16, KST, Munhwa Ilbo reported that the K-Drama apparently didn’t provide any detailed description of nudity in its script. According to the report, the actors weren’t aware that the scene would involve such high level of nudity until they sat down for storyboard discussions right before filming.

Since the prospect of such explicit exposure wasn’t previously agreed upon by the actors, the production team had to use CG editing to elevate the level of nudity, which they emphasized as very necessary. The media outlet stated that the bodies seen in the scenes were those of body doubles. Cha Joo young and Lee Yi Dam filmed the scenes while dressed, and the body doubles’ bodies were merged combined with the actors’ faces in  post production.

In response to the claims made by the report, Kim Sang Ho, the director of The Queen Who Crowns, insisted that it was neither him nor the production team that wanted to increase the level of nudity in the scene but the channel itself. He also hinted that he had to be cautious while addressing this issue, adding, “I don’t think I can speak directly about this matter.”

When SPOTV News reached out to the representatives of the K-Drama for a response, they told the outlet that they were in the process of verifying the truth of these claims.

Meanwhile, the fourth episode of The Queen Who Crowns recorded national viewership rating of 5.6%, holding onto the top spot across cable and general programming channels in its timeslot. The show airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 PM KST on tvN. Two episodes are also pre-released on TVING every monday at 2 PM KST.
