Choi Yena Undergoes A Dramatic Transformation That Even Shocks Her Own Brother
In 2018, Choi Yena was introduced to the world through Mnet‘s reality girl group audition program Produce 48, where she ranked fourth overall.
Recently, she drew attention for going through a dramatic transformation unlike we’ve ever seen before—it even shocked her brother.
Shortly after Produce 48, Choi Yena debuted as a member of IZ*ONE and showed off her charms as the group’s main rapper, lead vocalist, and lead dancer.
After IZ*ONE’s disbandment, Choi Yena debuted as a solo artist in 2022 with her upbeat ENFP-energy-filled song, “Smiley,” featuring BIBI. Her dynamic and confident performances and the eight other songs she released through her three EPs proved her capabilities as a solo artist.
She always had a cute, trendy, youthful image, often with pigtails and colorful and unique outfits.
On June 18, however, Choi Yena uploaded four photos on Instagram with the caption “XX?” and a new look. She wore dark smokey makeup and thick eyeliner all around her eyes.
She had a new “girl-crush charm” about her, with her hair styled in a “disheveled” way and her facial expression looking serious.
One of the aspects that drew the most attention was her teeth. She was radiant because of her beauty, but also because of the jewels that wore on her teeth. The top teeth had a combination of silver gems and one pink heart, and the lower teeth had the word “hate” on them.
Netizens immediately commented on her new post, and her older brother was one of them.
Actor and former SPEED member Choi Sung Min left a comment on his younger sister’s Instagram post, saying, “What in the world is that?”
Yena’s fans responded to her brother’s comment saying, “True siblings,” “He talks like Yena,” and “Oppa, you don’t need to worry.” The fan was right—his comment was such an older brother comment that shows how close the two are.
Other fans appeared shocked at her new look—in a good way—and complimented her, calling this look her “good girl gone bad” era.

Meanwhile, Yena is currently in the ENA reality show HMLYCP alongside Girls Day‘s Lee Hyeri, (G)I-DLE‘s Miyeon, dancer LEEJUNG, LE SSERAFIM‘s Kim Chaewon, and TV personality Patricia Yiombi. Yena is also scheduled to make a comeback with her second single album, HATE XX, on June 27, and plans to release her Japanese debut single, “SMILEY-Japanese Ver. (Feat Chanmina) on August 9.
