Too K-Drama For Real Life? City Councilor Proposes To Civil Servant In The Middle Of A Parliamentary Enquiry Session
A 47-year-old city councilor recently made headlines after publicly proposing a female civil servant during a plenary session.
The incident happened at the Gwangyang City Council in Jeollanam-do. According to reports from March 12, the city held a special plenary session on March 11, where Rep. Park Cheol Soo from the Democratic Party participated as a city councilor. After finishing his questions about city administration, he asked for his colleagues’ understanding and apologized in advance for “talking about personal matters in the plenary session.”
Park then commenced his proposal speech, saying, “I didn’t want to lose this person because she is someone who makes up for all the things I lack,” adding, “I felt that I had to use this method of going public to have a chance with this woman.” He then called out the name of Ms. A, a 41-year-old civil servant working at the Gwangyang City Hall, popping the question, “Will you marry me?”
The entire proposal was related to other public officials in the city council through internal broadcasting. But Rep Park got his answer after visiting Ms. A’s office, where she accepted the proposal. The two have reportedly been dating for two months and were planning to get married soon.
After pulling this stunt successfully, Park apologized, saying it was inappropriate to make personal remarks during plenary sessions, but he did it regardless because he was “desperate to confess his feelings.”
The incident has received mixed reactions from netizens, with many criticizing his use of a government platform for personal interests.
- “LOL, he is handsome, though.”
- “Huh?”
- “Ugh, what’s wrong with him…”
- “If this were overseas, I would have simply gone ‘Oh!’ and scrolled away. But when I saw it was our country, I got mad because they’re doing all that instead of working.”
- “Chills.”
- “Huh? This is freaking funny, LOL.”
- “Ah…”
- “Wouldn’t that be recorded in the meeting minutes?”
- “If you can’t control yourself even that much, you aren’t fit for the job. Just stop being a city council member, and I hope you find happiness.”
The entire plenary session, including the proposal, was recorded by the Gwangyang City Council, but they opted not to release the proposal part, saying it was private content.
