Court Rules In Favor Of Former LOONA Member Chuu In Lawsuit Against Blockberry Creative
Former LOONA member Chuu has achieved complete freedom from her contract with Blockberry Creative following a court ruling on August 17, KST.
In 2022, it was revealed that Chuu had filed a lawsuit against her then-agency Blockberry Creative (Blockberry hereon), stating issues such as income settlement and breach of trust. The court partially approved her case, granting a preliminary injunction to the artist. In March this year, the court unsuccessfully attempted to mediate between the two parties.
On the other hand, Blockberry made claims that Chuu had mistreated staff members and expelled her from LOONA in November 2022. But a detailed exposé from Dispatch turned the public entirely on the artist’s side, who stood firm on her ground. Other staff members who had worked with the singer also came to her defense, refuting Blockberry’s allegations.
The pending lawsuit has finally gotten the court’s verdict. On August 17, the 12th Civil Division of the Seoul Northern District Court ruled against Blockberry, nullifying their exclusive contract with Chuu signed in December 2017. The court also ordered the entertainment company to bear the litigation costs for both sides.
With this ruling, the long legal battle between Chuu, the first LOONA member to pull the plug on her unfair contract, and Blockberry, comes to an end. All the other LOONA members have also received favorable rulings in their applications for preliminary injunctions to suspend their contracts with the agency.
Chuu signed with her new agency, ATRP, last April and is active as a soloist in the entertainment industry. The other LOONA members have also joined different agencies to resume their careers.
