Doctor Who Provided Late Lee Sun Kyun’s Blackmailer With Drugs Sentenced To Prison
The doctor who supplied drugs to the manager of an adult entertainment establishment responsible for blackmailing the late actor Lee Sun Kyun has been sentenced to prison.
On September 24, during a sentencing hearing at the Incheon District Court, prosecutors requested a four-year prison sentence for a 43-year-old anesthesiologist from a Gangnam hospital. The doctor (referred to only as A) was charged with supplying illegal drugs, including methamphetamine and ketamine, over an eight-month period from December 2022 to August 2023.
Prosecutors highlighted how A, using his medical position to access narcotics easily, provided the substances for personal purposes. They noted his lack of remorse, emphasizing that he delayed the trial by claiming a key witness only testified against him due to a personal falling out.
Throughout the trial, A consistently denied involvement with the adult entertainment manager, identified as B, though he admitted to the other charges. His defense argued that he was unfairly tied to B and pleaded for leniency, stating that A had lost his career and that his elderly parents were now hospitalized. Mr. A expressed a desire to return to his medical practice if given the opportunity.
Additionally, A faces separate charges for allegedly smoking marijuana with an acquaintance in January 2021 and purchasing liquid marijuana later that same year.
The adult establishment manager (referred to as B) was indicted for blackmailing Lee Sun Kyun by threatening to expose their relationship unless Lee paid ₩300 million KRW (about $225,000 USD). B also faces drug-related charges, including administering narcotics three times.
The court is set to deliver its final judgment on both A and B on October 31.
Lee Sun Kyun had been under investigation for drug use in late 2023 but denied the allegations and tested negative during police drug screenings. Tragically, he was found dead in his car in December of the same year. The case was concluded in August with the indictment of five individuals related to the incident.
