EaJ Chokes Back Tears As He Discusses Erasure From DAY6 And His Regrets
Soloist eaJ (also known as DAY6‘s Jae) recently guested on the Zach Sang Show to promote his upcoming EP When The Rain Stops.
The last time eaJ guested on the show, he was introduced as a member of DAY6. So, Zach Sang inquired about eaJ’s feelings since departing the group, including his regrets.
π€ I didn't introduce you as that last time you were here
π₯yeah i was mm… Jae of DAY6
π€ two different people?
π₯ i dunno, I feel like at the core they're the same human
π₯ but probably just different types of ways of certain things
π₯ just similar but different https://t.co/MXUtRdLIMn pic.twitter.com/9TcW130rd9— πͺπππ ππ π΄ππ πͺ΄ (@mwday6) September 12, 2024
Zach Sang asked eaJ, “Why would people blame you for anything?”Β EaJ explained that many people felt that he was contributing a lot of drama to DAY6. He admitted he made mistakes, “I think it’s like a lot of people were upset that I was bringing a lot of drama to like the group with like me being outspoken about a ton of things and, honestly, once again, I did make a lot of mistakes separate of that, and I felt bad for those things.”Β
One of eaJ’s new songs is titled “i just want my 20s back.” He revealed it’s about multiple people, but it seems mainly about how he felt that he gave up his 20s for his career, only for it to be erased, as it appears he has been written out of DAY6 history.
It hurts because I see people trying to erase me from the history of that band when I’ve written a lot of the songs. Yeah, I’ve spent my 20s there … and now I’m just being erased, and like I respect them fully, and I truly genuinely wish them the best, and they are going to be on top of the world, and they kind of already are they’re doing amazing. Β …I don’t know if I have the right to say this, but I’m like really proud of them…

He was later asked, “Have the K-Pop community … forgiven you, or do you think some of them have still turned their back on you?” EaJ feels that he is disliked by the K-Pop community. He explained that he was mentally stuck at 18 for a while, immature, and angry, and he regrets how he behaved during his scandals.
I was very angry, at not anyone but like the label and the entity that was the chain of command that I was in … The more that I think about it these days I’m starting to realize more and more that I projected that anger to people that were in specific situations where I was already angry from something, and I don’t think they deserve that. …I was just a little immature. …There were other factors. … I’m not trying to make excuses for myself I just think I could have done things a lot better…

Yet, eaJ confessed that the hate comments bother him. He tries to ignore them, but they still affect him.
I just saw a comment yesterday that was like so there was this weird rumor going around I don’t know I don’t know where it came from because I’ve never said anything along those lines, but it was like, ‘Oh, Jae is gonna Jae is rumored to come back to DAY6, which is absolutely not true and I just read a comment saying … ‘Get that ugly monkey out of here or something like that’ … I’m just like, ‘What did I do to you?’
I’ve been doing this for like 12 years right, and I’ve seen my fair share of hate comments and like cancel trains and all that … It’s hard for me … I’ve learned to an extent to try to ignore it and be like, you know, Β there’s always going to be someone that hates you and even if I say that out loud it just kind of hurts when I see stuff like that…

When DAY6’s eighth EP Fourever was released, it divided the fandom. Many felt the title was shading eaJ. Now, eaJ has revealed his true feelings. He confessed, “It kind of hurt.”Β
I understand… it’s like they had like this whole analysis and the story behind it, but I mean, like, in my head, it’s hard for me to like watch any DAY6 stuff just ’cause, like, I don’t know, it reminds me a lot of stuff. For a long time, it was hard for me to even go back to Korea ’cause like every time I landed like there was this feeling of like anxiety and just unsettlement…
β eaJ
EaJ emphasized that he doesn’t feel the band is responsible for this and still truly wishes them the best. However, he thinks that someone in the label wants to erase him from DAY6’s history, which fans have previously noticed, as he has even been cropped out of images. It hurts since he spent so much time promoting them to the best of his abilities, writing songs, etc.
My gut reaction was that … It felt like someone… I don’t think it’s the band… but someone was trying to erase me out of the history of that, and it hurts because … I literally gave up my career in Korea for that team, I fought … to promote however I could, and now that I’m gone they’re trying to erase all that, but I understand. …I feel like there was never any closure for them on that side and that’s not to the band members that’s to more to the I think the label, and if that’s the closure that they need, then I guess so be it, but it’s still going to hurt a little bit…
