Engaged Korean Man Illegally Films Sexual Encounter With Another Woman
A public office worker who was engaged was sentenced to probation on charges of illegally filming a sexual encounter with another woman.
On June 25, the Daegu District Court’s 2nd Criminal Division sentenced Mr. A (32), who was indicted on charges of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, to one year in prison with two years probation, along with a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program.
Mr. A was a government worker in the Gyeongbuk province and was accused of filming having sex with Ms. A, who was an acquaintance. This happened several times without consent. It has also been known that Mr. A was currently engaged.
Last June, Mr. A went on trial for secretly filming having sexual intercourse with Ms. A, a single woman. Mr. A secretly filmed specific parts of Ms. B’s body more than once. After discovering the video, Mrs. A reported it to the police last September.
The court announced, “The victim has received mental damage and is demanding that the defendant be severely punished. Although the defendant made a deposit of ₩10.0 million KRW (about $7,190 USD), the victim is refusing the offer.”
They added, “We made this decision as the defendant is a first-time offender and has acknowledged and reflected on his mistakes.”
Mr. A has been relieved of his job position and the government will take the necessary steps to dismiss him.
Netizens couldn’t believe the court’s decision due to the defendant being a first-time offender.
- “But he’s a government worker?”
- “It’s probably his first time just getting caught…”
- “We need to change the judges to AI.”
- “All the info coded for the AI is going to be sh*t anyway.”
- “What does it matter if he’s a first-time offender? The victim will be scared for life because of this.”
- “First-time offender, my ass. It probably just means his first time getting caught.”
- “A country like this tells us to date, get married, and have kids. How dumb do they think women are..”
- “Wow, they’re letting him off easy because he’s a first-time offender? You mean his first time just getting caught.”
