4th Generation Group Becomes A Hot Topic Over A “Risky” Fansign Rule

It makes things more fair for fans, too.

While attending concerts is a big part of the K-Pop experience, most fans dream about meeting their faves up close and personal. One way of doing this is through attending fansign events.

TWICE’s Nayeon at a in-person fansign event.

Fansign events are usually raffles, with each album purchased counting as an entry. To attend the traditional fan sign event, fans wait for instructions from the group’s company on when and where to purchase the album.

As you can imagine, these fan signs can quickly become very expensive as fans purchase more and more albums to increase their likelihood of winning.

This means that many fans will not get a chance to experience this due to financial limitations.

However, 4th generation group EPEX recently evened the odds for their fans!

EPEX made their debut in 2021 and are set to release their first full album, sharing the pre-release “Graduation Day” in early February.

To celebrate this release, the group shared they will be doing a fan sign on February 18, releasing information on how to attend. However, fans noticed something a bit different about this fan sign announcement.

According to the rules shared on the site hosting the event, Ci Mall, the fan sign will be a random draw with 200 winners, more than the usual 100. The rules also stated that each person is limited to purchasing one album, with multiple entries not counting.

1. Among the EPEX albums sold at Ci Mall, 200 purchasers will be randomly selected.
2. Each person is limited to one entry, and duplicate entries are not allowed.
(If you purchase more than one album, it will still be considered as one entry.)

In an online forum post, many were pleasantly surprised, mentioning the positives, like less album waste and the opportunity for those unable to attend other events to have a fair chance.

  • “But actually,Β  isn’t this better than buying hundreds of copies and distributing them to schools or daycare centers that don’t need them?”
  • “I’m jealous. With this, even non-fans might consider buying one for themselves, haha. They might think, ‘Just in case. Haha. Once they see the real thing, they might get even more into it, you know?”
  • “How great would it be if my favorites also did fan signs like this!”

On the other hand, some pointed out how “risky” this could be, mentioning that fans have not liked these types of events in the past and that this won’t help the group’s album sales.

  • “It’s good, but I wonder what benefit the company gets from doing that…? Curious.”
  • “It would be great if everyone changed like this, but surprisingly, fans don’t like it because they think it won’t yield good results.”
  • “But I understand the fans’ concerns about no-shows.”
  • “I think, for non-fans, it might sound good. But as a fan, I might not like it haha. I do think it would be good to try this kind of thing once or twice for each activity, rather than for every fan signing event.”
  • “It’s great, but the sales might drop. But I think this is better than inflating the numbers.”
  • “Wow, aren’t they rookies? Given the company’s desire for sales volume, it’s surprising how they thought of this. Amazing.”

This is not the first time a group has held fansign events like this, but it will be interesting to see how it works out!
