Epik High’s Tablo Confirms Another Collaboration With BTS’s RM Is In The Works With A Completely New Sound
Veteran Korean hip-hop trio Epik High is returning with a new album, Strawberry, which releases globally on February 1 at 6 PM KST.
Ahead of the official release, Epik High teased their new music in an album sampler and performed their new track “Catch” featuring MAMAMOO’s Hwasa on her music program Hwasa Show.
Infused with groovy beats, old-school hip-hop vibes, and Epik High’s sharp, creative lyrics, the group is back to do what they do best, speak their mind, all before embarking on their world tour across Europe and North America.
Epik High’s leader Tablo recently spoke with Rolling Stone about what to expect from the new album, the inspiration behind it, and how their collaborations with other big-name artists come to life, including his collaboration with RM on the BTS leader’s debut solo album, Indigo.
Fans of BTS know that Epik High served as a significant inspiration behind RM’s musical aspirations.
In BTS RM’s Indigo Magazine Film, Tablo shared that he immediately agreed to collaborate with RM when the BTS member reached out to him. In fact, he hadn’t even listened to the track before deciding.
He sent over a song, and I didn’t even listen to it before saying, ‘Let’s do this!’
— Tablo
In his interview with Rolling Stone, Tablo gave further detail, saying he was preparing to board a flight to Singapore when he received the message from RM. With no time to listen to the track before his flight, he agreed without hesitation, having complete confidence in RM’s musical abilities.
I hadn’t even heard the song and [RM’s] laughing. But I mean obviously, right? RM is not going to do a bad song. He’s incapable of doing that.
— Tablo
When asked if Tablo had plans to feature RM on a future solo project, the Epik High leader playfully and hypothetically stated,
If there is a Tablo solo in the works, RM would definitely be number one on my list to do a song with.
— Tablo
He later confirmed to Rolling Stone that there is, in fact, a Tablo solo album in the works and that RM would be featured.
Tablo shared that the future collaboration track would be vastly different from the upbeat and fun “All Day.” This time, Tablo wants to try a moodier, more emotional song.
I also want to explore that more emotional, sort of painful kind of Epik High vibe, but in a completely new way with RM.
— Tablo
With their combined musical genius and unique lived experiences, the track will surely be one to anticipate.
