EXO’s last group comeback was in July 2023, just after Kai‘s enlistment. Before this, the group had not had a comeback featuring the eight Korean members since “Tempo,” which was also the most recent time all nine members, including Lay, were on a track (the Chinese version of the song).

Because of this, fans have been long awaiting the return of the enlisted members in hopes that a group comeback would follow shortly.

EXO’s D.O. recently discussed the group’s immediate future, sparking strong emotion in fans.

In an interview for his upcoming movie, Secret: Untold Melody, the idol-actor was asked about EXO’s plans as a full group. He responded that they would be preparing for this, but that it was unlikely to happen this year.

“We will start preparing and you’ll be able to see us, so there’s no need to worry. […] Not this year right away, but you’ll be able to meet us at the earliest possible time. We will start preparing this year after taking into account everyone’s individual schedules.

With Sehun, the last of the members to be discharged, scheduled to be release in September 2025, fans likely anticipated group activities right after. However, many were grateful for this honest update from the idol, and are looking forward to (hopefully) OT9 activities in 2026.
