Fact Check: Did Tyla Unfollow KISS OF LIFE After Julie’s Racist Birthday Debacle?

Recently, KISS OF LIFE came heavily under fire for racist and appropriative behavior during member Julie’s birthday livestream.

The dress code for Julie‘s birthday livestream was listed as “old-school hip-hop vibes.”
When the stream began, the members appeared in styles depicting racial stereotypes of Black people. They wore big gold chains, hats, and hairstyles, including cornrows and Bantu knots.
The group also acted in stereotypical ways, with Belle dressing in clothing usually worn by the Latino Cholo subculture and calling herself “Taco Belle.”

The group has since issued an apology but still faces enormous criticism online. This criticism was recently said to have included South African artist Tyla, who previously was photographed with the group.

A viral post on X claims that Tyla unfollowed KISS OF LIFE following the live stream, but is this true?

Tyla currently follows 431 people on her Instagram account, and a current search shows that does not include any of the members or the KISS OF LIFE official account.
Looking at the stats of her account, Tyla’s follower count went down by one on April 1, but increased a day later. This could mean she unfollowed someone, but more likely than not, someone deactivated and then reactivated their account.

The mention of Tyla following any one in KISS OF LIFE was first made on a fan account in February 2025. The account claimed that Natty was now followed by Tyla, however, this was proven to be untrue. Another user shared that they and another account were behind the initial screenshot, and declared that it was faked.
oomf and i faked this screenshot like a month ago for the natty x chaeryeong x tyla prank, and now everyone thinks tyla unfollowed natty when she never followed in the first place 😭😭 https://t.co/3lVW1TG5OW pic.twitter.com/PgHcDhyMsI

This proves that the allegations that Tyla unfollowed the group are untrue.
