Famous Singer’s Mother Exposes How His Father’s Extreme Abuse Almost Crushed His Career
A recent episode of KBS JOY‘s Ask Us Anything featured a heartbreaking story from the mother of a well-known singer, who exposed years of abuse and manipulation by her ex-husband, which has severely impacted their son’s career.
After her story went viral, Korean media revealed that the singer was Kim Soo Chan.
The mother, who appeared on the show on September 2, shared her ordeal, revealing that her ex-husband has been obstructing their son’s career by spreading false rumors. Despite divorcing over a decade ago, she claimed that her ex-husband has continued to create turmoil in their lives.
The mother explained that she left her ex-husband 12 years ago, fleeing with their three children due to his severe verbal and physical abuse. She did this without any financial support, as she was determined to protect her children from further harm.
According to her, the situation worsened when Kim Soo Chan — who had started gaining attention as a singer — caught the eye of a potential management company. Just as he was about to sign a contract, her ex-husband reappeared, insisting on taking over as his manager.
The mother revealed that her ex-husband’s sudden involvement wasn’t out of concern for their son but was driven by his own interests. He even went as far as to spread damaging rumors that she had engaged in explicit behavior to secure the contract, which ultimately led to the deal being canceled.
When my son was about to sign with an agency, my ex-husband spread rumors that I had prostituted myself to secure the contract. Because of these false rumors, the contract was canceled, and my ex-husband ended up taking over as my son’s manager.

Without the support of an official agency, Kim was left to navigate his career with his father acting as his manager. However, instead of helping, the father exploited his son, taking out loans in his name and even soliciting money from relatives and fans under false pretenses.

The mother also revealed a disturbing incident where her son, now an adult, was forced to hide in a playground to escape his father, who had chased him with a car in what appeared to be a threatening manner. Despite being an adult, Soo Chan is still traumatized and fearful of his father, unable to break free from the abusive relationship.
One day, my son called me and said he was too exhausted to sing anymore. He was hiding barefoot in a playground. He told me that his father had chased him in a car, making it seem like he was going to run him over. He fled without even having time to put on his shoes. That’s how desperate the situation was.
