Cast Lineup For Musical “The Man Who Laughs” Sparks Debate Among Fans
Most recently, the cast lineup for the musical The Man Who Laughs was revealed online.
EMK Musical Company posted the official photos and revealed Park Eun Tae, Lee Seok Hoon, Kyuhyun, and Doyoung as the cast for the role of Gwynplaine.
While three actors have played this role before, it will be Doyoung’s first time.

Can we please have musical actors doing musicals..what is this.
- “This musical is not easy, considering that other musical actors even use oxygen masks while performing. We’re worried because an idol without much experience is part of the cast.”
- “Does EMK have something where they can’t stop using SM idols for the shows?”
- “…..? And they’re not bringing any musical actors?”
…others argued that all the actors have had experience with musicals.
I’ve been a musical fan for ten years, and those who say Kyuhyun and Lee Seok Hoon aren’t authentic musical actors are just out of the loop or trolling. Musical fans will know their filmography and understand that they are not rookies. Musical fans aren’t trying to split them up by musical actors and singers. If people are trying to troll them, they should do their research first.
I’m a musical fan, and Kyuhyun and Lee Seok Hoon are actors that you can trust and watch. If you talk about ‘authentic musical actors’ in this day and age, you will get criticized by musical fans too.
Although I am a musical fan, I have watched both Kyuhyun and Lee Seok Hoon. They both have talent, and they are musical actors. They both have much history with the show, so please stop trying to divide them up into musical actors and singers.
In the case of Doyoung, although this will be his first time for this musical, he has had prior experience with his role as Count Axel von Fersen, in Marie Antoinette in 2021.
Meanwhile, the musical will begin on January 9, 2025, at the Seoul Arts Center Opera Theater in Seoul.
