The two members focused many of their promotions in Japan, leading fans to hope they would debut in NCT Tokyo. SM Entertainment’s announcement stated that they would instead be debuting in a new boy group this year, unassociated with NCT’s expansion.

The news upset many, especially considering SM Entertainment still planned to move forward with NCT Tokyo.
