Fireworks Go Haywire, Injuring 17 People At South Korean Music Festival

They were sent to the hospital.

During a music festival on September 6, 2024, held in Jecheon City, fireworks went awry, injuring 17 people in the audience. The 20th Jecheon International Music and Film Festival was held that day, with fireworks released to celebrate the event. The fireworks fell towards the audience instead, leading to a man in his 40s and a girl in her teens being burned. Apart from them, 15 others were sent to the hospital to treat their injuries.

It was said that there were around 2000 people in the audience. The event was stopped temporarily to deal with the accident, and was resumed after. The police have determined that the organizers had prepared fireworks, but they were flown in the direction of the audience, causing the mishap.

The police are currently investigating if the event was carried out in accordance with safety measures.

The city and the film festival office quickly issued an apology on their website. The second day of the festival to be held on September 7, 2024, will not include any fireworks or special effects.
