A First-Generation Girl Group Idol Is Mocked By Anti-Fans — So She Titles Her Song After What They Used To Call Her
A first-generation girl group member once got made fun of by anti-fans—but she turned that experience into the topic of her new song.
On August 22, former Jewelry member Lee Ji Hyun appeared on SBS Power FM‘s Two O’Clock Cultwo Show along with the girl group STAYC. Lee Ji Hyun admired how unified and cheerful the members of STAYC were as a group, whereas she was a solo artist.
Lee Ji Hyun then talked about her recently released song called “Get It On, Put It On.” The romanization of the title in Korean is Gari long, puri long, which she said was a term that anti-fans used to mock Lee Ji Hyun. It all started when she and her Jewelry members sang the Spice Girls’ song “2 Become 1.”
Back then, I sang the Spice Girls’ song ‘2 Become 1’ while pretending to be cute, but apparently that wasn’t a good look. The term ‘gari long, puri long‘ was coined to refer to that, and that time it was taboo because I was so hurt and hated being made fun of.

The term ‘gari long, puri long‘ was referring to the lyrics in “2 Become 1,” when Lee Ji Hyun sings the lyrics, “Get it on” and “Put it on.” She was made fun of for her pronunciation of these words.
However, as time passed, she embraced the situation and realized that the anti-fans’ comments were rooted in an interest in her—and so she decided to use this term as the title of her new song.
That is why her song “Get It On, Put It On” contains lyrics that appear to be directed at anti-fans. She says lyrics, such as “Don’t leave hate comments, don’t you have kids/ Even if I can’t sing, mind your own business.”
Lee Ji Hyun stated that when the writers of the song stated the idea for the lyrics, she was sad. However, now she finds the lyrics humorous and even contributed to the lyric-writing process.
At first, I felt down when they said let’s make the lyrics with this concept. I wondered if we had to go to that extent. But since the lyrics were quite fun, I thought, ‘Let’s go with it.’
