They should be grateful.

“Today, I had a brief Zoom call with the employees of the U.S. PR agency that worked with BTS during their U.S. debut. Although we now all work at different companies, they are all great people. When U.S. promotions for K-Pop artists were failing, and BTS was trying to get their way into the U.S. market, I called around and was connected with this PR agency, which was the only company that saw BTS’s potential. I have a deep appreciation for them because of that. Starting then, BTS began U.S. promotions and was rising to success.

But once things started going well, the agency threw the PR agency away for different reasons. During the meeting, they asked me, ‘What’s going on with HYBE these days? What’s with Bang? I just answered, ‘I don’t know either.’ I believe that those who aren’t grateful and are blinded by success will eventually fail.”

“The NewJeans livestream is causing a hot issue. Most people at HYBE are staying quiet about this and a few that I’ve asked are all keeping their mouths shut. I guess this is what happens when an entertainment business becomes too big, and the owner tries to evolve it into another industry. But do we have to expand music into a comprehensive culture? I’ve worked with Bang before so I know the type of person he is, and although many things have changed over the years, it’s most likely the same old story, so I can see what’s going on. Such a shame for NewJeans…”

Korean netizens were appalled at the company’s actions and hoped that other artists would escape safely from this type of environment.

  • “BTS let’s escape from here.”
  • “Thinking about Big Hit, they’ve gotten worse after getting bigger.”
  • “Seeing that the people that worked there until 2018 all left, I guess they were basically thrown out. I can see why they lost their touch after that.”
  • “All artists under this company should be careful when trying to leave…”
  • “I hope all the artists can leave this company safely.”
  • “If they keep this up, who would want to work there? They just take what people have to offer than throw them out.”
  • “If you’ve reached a certain level of success, you should set a good influence to society, and yet they are just causing a stir. Can’t believe I wanted Bang to take over a baseball team.”
  • “Can’t believe they just thew out the U.S. PR agency like that. They would have failed if it weren’t for the U.S. Billboard charts. They should be grateful…”
