Former “It Couple” To Be Reunited On Camera After Years
A former beloved celebrity couple is about to be reunited on screen again, and fans couldn’t be more excited.
According to News1 reports on November 29, entertainer Shin Dong Yup will be appearing on supermodel Lee So Ra’s newly launched YouTube show Supermarket So Ra.
The concept of Supermarket So Ra is that the supermodel reunites with people she misses and talks about their shared memories. Reports have confirmed that Shin Dong Yup has already finished filming for his episode.
For those unaware of this duo’s romance, back in 1999, Shin and Lee were the “It Couple” of the Korean entertainment industry. They had been dating for six years and were expected to get married soon.
There is also a persisting rumor about the couple, which involves Shin landing himself in jail for the sake of Lee’s reputation. In December of 1999, Shin Dong Yup was arrested for marijuana use. But unlike other entertainers who find it hard to make their way back into the industry after narcotics-related crimes, Shin returned only 22 months later and became the MC for MBC’s Sunday Night Show.
Rumors said that this short hiatus and quick acceptance was possible because industry insiders knew Shin had made a big sacrifice for the sake of his then-girlfriend, Lee So Ra. It was speculated that Lee So Ra had filmed a pornographic video during her rookie days, and it was only available overseas. A sports journalist allegedly came across it and was about to publish the news, but Shin met him up before that to strike a deal. He apparently promised to smoke marijuana and give the reporter the scoop in exchange for killing the story about Lee So Ra, and the reporter agreed.
Shin Dong Yup’s scandal erupted, and he went to jail, but he was able to make a smooth comeback, presumably due to the sympathy of industry insiders. However, his relationship with Lee So Ra ended in 2001. Shin Dong Yup eventually got married in 2006, while Lee focused on her career.
Despite having such a public romance, Shin Dong Yup and Lee So Ra have not shied away from mentioning each other on the fly over the past two decades. Even last year, Shin had talked about Lee during TVING’s variety show Witch Hunt, and this year too, he brought her up on his YouTube show Zzanbro. But this would be the first time the former couple would reunite on camera. Naturally, the news has generated a lot of exciting buzz around Supermarket So Ra’s upcoming episode.
