Former Girl Group Member Confesses To Being A Victim Of Rental Scam
Former Crayon Pop member Way confessed to being a rental scam victim.
On November 11, she posted a video on her WayLand YouTube channel and explained the story in detail.
I think I was scammed. I haven’t received my money, so it’s commonly known as a jeonse scam.
— Way
Jeonse is a key money deposit common to the South Korean real estate market.
She explained that although she had insurance from the Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG), she was still having difficulty.
“Not all can be solved just because you have HUG insurance. You have to prepare many documents to get your deposit money back, and you have to wait more than two months without receiving money from the landlord before you can say you haven’t received the money yet.
I haven’t been able to move, and the loan interest keeps going up, and I can’t contact my landlord.”
— Way
Losing contact with the landlord is one of the most common problems victims face of jeonse fraud. Victims usually have to wait a long time in order to get their deposits back through legal procedures.
Way has also visited the court to receive the necessary documents and underwent various complicated procedures.
Way’s case aligns with the recent rise of jeonse scam cases. In 2023, the number of Jeonse scam victims has increased worldwide, becoming a big social problem.
