Popular Female Idol’s Banners Hung Outside Of SM Building Sparks Debate
Most recently, Girls’ Generation marked its 17th debut anniversary on August 5. The members celebrated and thanked fans through social media messages.

An online community post garnered attention as fans of former member Jessica Jung celebrated the anniversary projects around Seoul.
Turns out, her fan site FIREFLIES_418 prepared 60 sets of street flags to be hung on the street opposite the SM building.
They also prepared screen ads to be played in CU convenience stores all throughout Korea.
They also had ads that would be played at cosmetic store Olive Young…
…and even banner ads for KakaoTalk!
And as a grand finale, they will have a 500 drone and fireworks performance at the Han River to celebrate the special day!
However, Korean netizens had mixed reactions to the project prepared by international fans.
- “I guess it doesn’t matter if they do it, but if feels like the fans still aren’t cool about everything that’s happened.”
- “Why are they like that.”
- “Why are they doing that in front of SM?”
- “Her and her fans, they are the same.”
- “They don’t have any conscience.”
- “What’s with this. She doesn’t have any promotions in Korea to be having all this. Why don’t they hang this up in China?”
- “I don’t think SM employees would care about it. They’d probably be like ‘Ah ok’ and move on.”
- “SM wouldn’t even care.”
- “Chinese fans really go above and beyond for things like this.”
- “I don’t think there’s a problem with the drone show, but I don’t understand why they need to hang banners in front of SM.”
- “Really…”
- “She’s already left the company, why are they dragging this out so long.”
- “Why are they hanging it up there though? I don’t think anyone would really care.”
- “The drone show looks so pretty.”
- “I don’t think it matters since it’s not illegal and their using their own money. I mean there’s other people sending flower wreaths to a certain agency, too.”
- “I don’t think Jessica would’ve wanted this.”
- “But why are they hanging these up at a company she’s no longer with? Wouldn’t it be better to do it near her company or where she lives instead? Or maybe somewhere where there are more people. I’m not being sarcastic, I’m genuinely curious.”
