Former Girls’ Generation Star Jessica Jung’s K-Pop Novel “Shine” Debuts On The New York Times Best Seller List
Just one week after release, Jessica Jung‘s K-Pop novel Shine has made its debut on the prestigious New York Times Best Sellers list.
The K-Pop side of social media has been abuzz with talk about Shine since before it was even released. The young adult novel tells the story of Rachel Kim, a K-Pop trainee based on the former Girl’s Generation star herself. After Jessica revealed the book would contain “easter eggs” about her real days as a trainee, numerous fans couldn’t wait to get their hands on it.
And, after so many K-Pop fans grabbed a copy in the book’s debut week, Shine has made it onto the New York Times Best Sellers list. Considered the most important book ranking in the United States, the list ranks the highest selling publications each week across several categories. Shine currently ranks 5th in the Young Adult Hardcover category.
Jessica Jung’s book is one of several new to the Young Adult Hardcover ranking this week. It sits right behind Angie Thomas‘s The Hate U Give, a novel about racism and police brutality with over 3 and a half years on the New York Times Best Sellers list. Other major authors Jessica joins on the list include Marie Lu and Karen M. McManus.
This week’s list reflects sales from September 27 to October 3. Now, it remains to be seen whether Shine will move up or down the ranking next week.
And as the book soars to great heights, fans have a sequel to look forward to. Jessica Jung recently confirmed that Shine is part of a two-book deal, and the second book is currently in the works. Congratulations, Jessica!
