Former MOMOLAND Member Daisy Goes Viral For Explaining How She Unexpectedly Became A Rapper
Have you ever wondered how K-Pop idols are assigned their positions in their group?
Former MOMOLAND member Daisy recently revealed how she became a rapper, and the unexpected story has gone viral.
Recently, Daisy has been sharing stories from her past life as a K-Pop idol via her TikTok account, where she has garnered nearly 800k followers.
This month, Daisy posted a video lip-syncing to Ice Spice‘s new song “Think U The Sh*t (Fart).” Daisy jokingly captioned it, “What kpop raps would sound like i was still an idol,” and added, “jk i could never come up with this.”
@daisiesforyu jk i could never come up with this
It went viral with 4.4M views at the time of writing. One netizen honestly asked her if she had wanted to rap or sing when she became a K-Pop idol.
Daisy replied, thanking the commenter, explaining that she had wanted to “defend herself.” So, she told the story of how she became a rapper in a get-ready-with-me style video.
I’ve been wanting to defend myself about this for forever.

She explained that originally, she had never auditioned with raps. Instead, Daisy would sing and/or dance. Yet, she realized that she needed something to help her stand out.
I have never once walked into an audition with a rap or… not a single bar. I always went into auditions with like a little song and a little dance, and that’s it. But when you’re a trainee, that’s another word for being unemployed. And when you’re unemployed, you’re very desperate, and desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Daisy tried to think what could be her special talent. Finally, she remembered that she had memorized Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj‘s hit song “Super Bass.”
So, when you’re a trainee, you want to stand out. You want to be different. Like any good person would do, I was scouring my brain for anything that I knew how to do, like a little secret talent of mine. And that took me back all the way to the year of 2010, which just so happened to be the year of the worldwide cultural phenomenon of tweens all over the world memorizing Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ word for word as if it was gonna be on the ACT’s, and I just so happened to be the president of the Korean branch. So, I gave them a little, ‘This one is for the boys with the boomin’ system.’

This is what ultimately impressed the company staff in Daisy’s audition. From that day forward, she was a rapper, all thanks to a Nicki song she had learned in sixth grade.
And these clueless 40-year-olds were absolutely blown away, and from that day on, I was a rapper. Shoutout to me in the sixth grade.
— Daisy
However, Daisy had never dreamed of being a rapper. She actually wanted to be a singer. But at least she was no longer just a trainee, and she accepted it.
So, first, I was kind of like, ‘Oh my God, what have I done to myself?’ Because I really wanted to like sing more, but then, you know, I learned to kind of accept it during my short-lived career.

Daisy confessed that whenever she sees comments praising her “rap skills,” she can’t help but laugh, knowing the truth. Still, she had fun with it.
And this is why it’s so funny for me whenever I get like a comment saying like, ‘Oh my God, I love you or like you’re such a good rapper.’ I’m like, I laugh at the comments so hard because what are you talking about? Did you listen to my part on mute? Like I will admit as horrible as it was, it was a little silly. It was fun.

Her video went viral with 2.2 views on TikTok. It’s also been reposted on X (formerly Twitter), where it has garnered over 4 million views too.

Netizens can’t help but think the story is so funny and low-key relatable, as many people in Daisy’s generation memorized the iconic Nicki Minaj rap. Yet, fans also didn’t totally agree with her self-criticism. Her verse in “BBoom BBoom” will never not eat.
The funniest part is that there is also video evidence of the story Daisy told. Her “Super Bass” audition was featured in Mnet‘s reality survival show Finding Momoland, which formed the group.
