Former T-ARA’s Areum Sent To Prosecution On 37 Million Won Fraud Charges
According to reports on August 12, KST, the Gwangmyeon Police Station in Gyeonggi has confirmed that former T-ARA member Areum has been sent to the prosecution on charges of fraud.
Previously, we reported that three separate individuals had reported the singer to the Gwangmyeong Police Station for swindling money from them. The total damage claimed by them was ₩37.0 million KRW (about $27,100 USD). These three individuals were reportedly Areum’s acquaintances and fans.
The police conducted a probe and found that Areum’s former boyfriend, Seo, had also extorted some money from the victims. He has been handed over to the prosecution as well. Though Areum had previously claimed that she was blackmailed by Seo into borrowing the money from the victims, during the police investigation, she largely admitted to the charges. Seo, however, denied them.
Previously, the former idol was also accused of child abuse by her former husband. Subsequent investigations, however, deemed his accusations unfounded. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office also refused to press any charges based on those allegations.
