A Korean Singer Posts Only Four Words On Social Media After Getting Caught For Drunk Driving (DUI)
Singer and actor Eru (also known as Jo Seong Hyun) was recently sentenced to probation for drunk driving. Recently, he expressed his feelings in four simple words on his Instagram.
In September 2022, Eru was caught by the police for driving after drinking at a restaurant in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Although his blood alcohol level was not enough to be punished, he was suspected of pretending that a female professional golfer, who was with him, was the one driving.
Furthermore, the next month, Eru went for drinks with his colleague whom he handed his keys and made him drive drunk. On the same day, he drove another acquaintance’s car under the influence of alcohol and crashed into the right guardrail while speeding. At that time, his blood alcohol level was 0.075%, which is the level for a suspended license.
In the first trial held on June 1, Eru’s defense attorney admitted to all the charges and evidence but requested leniency, asking them to consider that Eru confessed to all the crimes and that “his mother has dementia and needs care.”
Then on June 15, Eru was sentenced to six months of probation with a one-year suspended sentence and a fine of ₩100,000 KRW (about $78.30 USD) for aiding a fugitive, aiding and abetting drunk driving, and drunk driving and speeding under the Road Traffic Act.
On June 16, Eru addressed the controversy with a simple photo and caption on his Instagram. The picture showed his parents, famous trot singer Tae Jin Ah and Lee Ok Hyung, sitting side by side, looking at the camera and smiling.
Along with the photo was a caption that read: “Good Parents Bad Son.”
He turned off comments for the post and has no other posts on his Instagram. The only person he follows on Instagram is his father, Tae Jin Ah. It appears that he is expressing how he feels about his controversy, admitting his shortcomings as a son are not related to who his parents are.
