Is f(x) Over? Eric Nam Asked And Amber Liu Answered
Is there a comeback in f(x)‘s future, or are they done for good? Eric Nam asked member Amber Liu what fans have been wanting to know for years.
f(x) is an SM Entertainment girl group that debuted as 5 members in 2009. After Sulli left the group in 2015, Victoria, Amber, Luna, and Krystal continued as 4 members to release their fourth studio album, 4 Walls in October 2015, followed by their second Japanese physical single album, 4 Walls / Cowboy, in November. Those were the last group albums f(x) produced.
From 2016 until 2020, f(x)’s members have pursued solo music, as well as acting and modeling. Amber, Luna, and Krystal briefly reunited to perform at SM Town Live 2019 in Tokyo, but the group has yet to make an official comeback since 2015.
In September 2019, Amber and Luna did not renew their contracts with SM Entertainment when they expired, but they have not left f(x). All four members are still pursuing their individual careers, so where does that leave f(x) in 2020?
In Episode 39 of DIVE Studios‘ KPDB, Eric Nam and Amber discussed f(x)’s past, present, and future. “Why do you think there was not more f(x)?” he asked.
According to Amber, a lot of f(x)’s content production, or lack there of, boils down to timing. The members, managers, company, everyone involved, has to be on the same page. This is difficult to do, especially when the members have solo careers.
There are so many people who have to greenlight a single project, but you know, I just want to let the fans know, and let you know, our hearts–me and the bandmates–our hearts have always been like, let’s do f(x). Let’s do f(x).

“When we feel like it’s the right time,” Amber said. “and the business is okay as well, I think we’ll figure it out.”
