G-Dragon’s Self-Made Artwork Being Auctioned Gets Mixed Reaction From Netizens
K-Pop icon G-Dragon is well on his way to conquering another artistic field, as his artwork is reportedly going to be auctioned at a high-profile upcoming art event.
The Seoul Auction website states that G-Dragon’s piece, “Youth Is Flower,” will appear at their contemporary art fair scheduled for March 29. The artwork, created with spray paint and markers on a steel panel, was completed in 2017. It contains G-Dragon’s signature motif — a smiling daisy flower.
G-Dragon’s “Youth Is Flower” will be auctioned alongside the artworks of other esteemed artists such as Lee Bae and Kim Sun Woo. However, unlike the other artists whose art pieces have specified estimated prices, the price of G-Dragon’s piece has not been disclosed. On the website, it is labeled as “inquire separately.”
According to Seoul Auction, the starting bid for the artwork is ₩30.0 million KRW (about $22,700 USD), and the winning bid will be determined at the auction on March 29. The piece is currently on display at the Seoul Auction Gangnam Center in Gangnam, Seoul.
As a longtime art connoisseur, G-Dragon now having his art auctioned at an art fair seems like an epic full-circle moment. However, netizens are divided in their opinion on the piece and its price.
