Popular Disbanded Girl Group’s Recent Activities Together Give Fans Hope For A Comeback
Many fans of third-generation K-Pop groups can only hope that their favorite groups will remain together as they navigate through their now-established careers. Some, like EXO, have worked on their solo careers while simultaneously handling group activities.
Others, somewhat sadly, go on to disband as the individual members focus on their next plans or leave their current companies for more independence and better opportunities.
One girl group whose disbandment left many heartbroken was GFRIEND.
GFRIEND debuted under Source Music in 2015 and immediately gained attention with their debut “Glass Bead.”
The group’s popularity increased as they promoted through the years, building a large fanbase worldwide. In November 2020, the group released what many did not know would be their final album under Source Music, which HYBE had acquired the previous year.
The members themselves have since revealed they were unaware of the plans for their unexpected disbandment.
Former GFRIEND Leader Sowon Confirms That The Group Didn’t Know They Were Disbanding
Since then, the group have continued working, some as solo artists with SinB, Umji, and Eunha re-debuting as VIVIZ.
January 15 was the group’s 9th anniversary, and a surprise update from the members has left fans emotional and hopeful.
On the anniversary day, the members shared that they had been together by posting photobooth photos on their Instagram accounts.
Not all posts were the same, but most included the two photobooth images individually and separately. Yerin included a photo of the six women seemingly having a toast for her post.
Fans were emotional over the reunion and sent their love to the group. Some have taken it as a hint (especially former leader Sowon‘s caption) that one day soon, GFRIEND will retake the stage as six.
