Girls’ Generation announces details for first Korean comeback with eight members
SM Entertainment‘s powerhouse Girls’ Generation has just announced plans for their first Korean comeback as an 8-member group following Jessica Jung‘s departure last Fall.
According to Korean news agency Sports DongA, industry insiders reported that the girl group is currently aiming to release a full album this May. This will be Girls’ Generation’s first studio album since their I Got a Boy album which was released over two years ago in January of 2013. This two year hiatus beat the previous record held by I Got A Boy which was released 1 year and 3 months after their third studio album, “The Boys.” In the meantime however, they promoted title tracks including “Oh!” and “Mr.Mr.” from their mini-albums.
News of their first Japanese single since Jessica’s departure was recently announced as well. Girls’ Generation will be releasing their ninth Japanese single “Catch Me If You Can” in April. With this news, fans were disappointed to hear that their comeback would be a Japanese single as their last domestic comeback was last year’s February mini-album Mr.Mr. However, much to fans’ delight, it has now been revealed that Girls’ Generation will not be skipping promotions in Korea this year.
This news has been met with varying responses as some fans have continued to mourn the untimely departure of Jessica while others are ecstatic to hear news of a comeback from the girl group. Since this will not only be their first release in over a year but also their first as a group with eight members, expectations for this album are high.
Currently, the members of Girls’ Generation have been active in numerous ways as they prepare for their comebacks. Tiffany hinted at a comeback on Instagram and recently released an OST for KBS drama Blood while member Yoona recently graduated from Dongguk University with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
In light of their comeback announcement, it has also been rumored that former member Jessica is preparing for her Japanese solo debut, although nothing has been confirmed.
