Girls’ Generation’s YoonA Clarifies Why Hyoyeon Wasn’t Invited To Her Birthday Celebration
Girls’ Generation is one of the oldest active girl groups in K-Pop, crossing 17 years together as a nine-member ensemble this year. Naturally, the members have developed an interpersonal relationship that goes way beyond work ties, evident in their frequent silly bickering and tame arguments. Recently, members YoonA and Hyoyeon decided to bring up one such “incident” during a YouTube show appearance.
On December 18, KST, YoonA appeared in a video on Hyoyeon’s YouTube channel, Hyo’s Level Up, as a special guest. The conversation kicked off in a playful mood, with the two teasing one another. But then Hyoyeon suggestively asked YoonA if she had shared a meal with the other members recently, leaving her half-flustered as she tried to explain the “incident” the older member was trying to hint at.
YoonA shared that around her birthday, she sent a message to their group chat, asking if the members would be free any day to meet up and have a meal together. “But no one was available. Everyone rejected,” she added. She admitted that it was a bit “disappointing.”
The conversation wrapped up with everyone agreeing to “meet again soon,” without any specific plans being made.
After that, YoonA recalled, some of the members went to eat barbecue together on Sooyoung’s birthday and liked the restaurant so much that they decided to visit again. During their second visit, they invited YoonA along.
“I went thinking the unnies were treating me to a meal,” YoonA explained, adding, “But it almost turned into a birthday party.” She mentioned that at that moment, she felt that it would have been nice to have the rest of the members present with them as well.
Though Hyoyeon wanted to “sulk” about being excluded from YoonA’s spontaneous birthday celebration, she admitted that she was more grateful that the other members could at least make it possible.
YoonA then teased Hyoyeon, “Unnie, why didn’t you celebrate for me?” and asked her to buy her a meal, to which she readily agreed.
The two finally decided to make plans much in advance for YoonA’s next birthday and have a meal with all the members together.
