Gong Yoo Opens His Official Instagram Account, And Netizens Can’t Get Over His “Squid Game” Inspired First Post
With the rise of social media, it seems like everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to share content about their lives. Although it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, there is no denying that we love seeing celebrities post about their lives.
One K-Drama legend who has recently joined the social media train is actor Gong Yoo! On December 1 (KST), he finally opened an Instagram account, and it already has over one million followers, including actress Bae Suzy!
As excited as fans were to see Gong Yoo create an account, it was his first post that caught the attention of fans. Despite being a legendary actor in K-Dramas and loved by millions (not just for his visuals), Gong Yoo saw his fame worldwide elevate after his cameo in the Netflix series Squid Game.
Well, it seems as if he might have referenced the show in his first post. Although it had no caption, netizens couldn’t stop laughing after Gong Yoo posted a picture of what seemed to be a squid and definitely took the idea of Squid Game seriously.
Of course, when the image was shared, the actor’s already huge followers list was quick to comment and share their thoughts on the actor making his Instagram debut.
However, you would be wrong if you thought the food-related picture was just because of Squid Game. In an episode of Wook Talk, with fellow actor Lee Dong Wook, Gong Yoo explained that if he ever had an Instagram account, it would only be filled with food images.
It seems as if Gong Yoo wasn’t lying about that, and we might just be witnessing the birth of the world’s newest food influencer account!
Luckily, Gong Yoo also seems to be showing some variety on his account. He later treated fans to a non-food-related photo of himself looking very fit and toned in a varsity-style vest with his name on it.
Although Gong Yoo didn’t have a main role in Squid Game, his character was still a huge talking point, and not just because he was extremely handsome. So, with a second series of the show confirmed and the actor showing his love for the show through his pictures… maybe, hopefully, his character can make a return.
With years of experience in K-Dramas, it will no doubt be a treat to many netizens to see Gong Yoo finally being on social media, and who knows, it could just be an account of food or even some sneaky selfies as well.
