Han So Hee’s Response To “Gyeongseong Creature” Criticism Comes Under Fire
Han So Hee is facing criticism after her comments about Gyeongseong Creature‘s portrayal of Korean independence fighters.
On January 15, Han So Hee met with news outlets to speak about Gyeonseong Creature. The K-Drama, which was initially maligned by criticism over the show’s storytelling, recently turned around fan sentiment to triumphantly conclude its first act.
On this day, Han So Hee spoke about criticisms from some viewers who felt the show had disrespected Korea’s independence fighters by portraying some of them as weak and even traitorous.
I think it is fair to criticize (the show). But I think it’s impossible for anyone to accurately speak (on that time period) unless you’ve actually lived through it. Everyone is living out that time vicariously through the characters, so I think it is disrespectful to the independence fighters to judge any of their decisions as right or wrong.
— Han So Hee
This isn’t the first time the show’s actors have addressed the controversy over the show’s portrayal of Korea’s independence movement. Previously, Park Seo Joon also spoke about his thoughts on the criticisms.

Netizens reacted to Han So Hee’s statements, with many expressing disappointment. Many felt that the show shouldn’t dismiss the audience’s request for the show to be respectful of Korea’s independence movement.
- What the hell are you talking about? She even talks about Ahn Jung Eun.
- Your writer is the one who is disrespectful.
- Did this show have any controversies? I didn’t know because I didn’t care.
- I think she’s talking about something else.
- Is it disrespectful for audiences to ask the show to respect the independence fighters who lived through one of Korea’s darkest periods? What is she even saying?
- Why is the drama’s writers, directors, and actors so disrespectful?
- She’s not speaking clearly… I don’t know what she is trying to say.
- What is she saying? I liked Han So Hee… I don’t understand what she’s trying to say. But for the sake of the argument, weren’t her writer and director the ones being disrespectful?
What are your thoughts?
