Hanni Spills On The Painful Reality Of NewJeans’ First “Super Shy” Dance Practice
NewJeans were the most recent guests on IU‘s variety program IU’s Palette, during which they discussed their latest mini-album, performed acoustic versions of their hit songs, and bonded with IU over their unexpected similarities.
The NewJeans members taught IU their choreography for “Super Shy” and had everyone in the room dancing along. After successfully teaching IU and the IU’s Palette team the choreography, the talented soloist asked Hanni about her painful experience learning the trendy dance.
One of the key points to the choreography for “Super Shy” is the use of waacking, which is a dance style that originated in gay clubs in Los Angeles during the 1970s.
Waacking involves fast, rhythmic arm movements, poses, and isolations, with a focus on creating lines and shapes.
Hanni explained that for the choreography, the group keeps their arms moving for three minutes.
She shared that the NewJeans members had five hours of training in the waacking dance form in preparation for their “Super Shy” choreography.
NewJeans is known for their high-energy and impressively synchronized performances, and Hanni revealed she worked hard to learn the dance during their first lesson.
She only hilariously realized once she went to take a shower that night that she could no longer raise her arms as a result.
It wasn’t just Hanni who was sore that night; she hilariously revealed that when the five members showed up for practice the next day, they could not raise their arms above their heads.
With continued practice, the NewJeans members became used to the new moves and stunned netizens with their powerful dancing.
